Sarracenia ‘Fon’ is a refined and elegant hybrid carnivorous plant, believed to originate from a cross within the Sarracenia flava group, often showing strong influence of Sarracenia flava × Sarracenia leucophylla. This lineage is reflected in its tall, slender pitchers, graceful structure and the delicate veining and colour contrast that develops towards the upper tube and lid.
This cultivar is particularly valued for its clean, upright growth habit and well-defined pitcher shape, typically reaching heights of 50–70 cm under good conditions. The pitchers are predominantly green to yellow-green, often accented with fine red veining, especially around the throat and lid. In strong light, the colouration intensifies, giving the plant a more vibrant and defined appearance. The lid is slightly flared, helping to guide insects into the trap while also protecting it from excess rain.
Like its parent species, Sarracenia ‘Fon’ produces nectar to attract insects, which are then captured in its passive pitfall traps. This makes it not only visually appealing but also highly functional and engaging for customers.
Flowering typically occurs in spring, with tall flower stalks emerging before or alongside the first pitchers. The flowers are often in yellow tones, again reflecting its flava heritage, and add an extra seasonal feature to the plant. peat moss and perlite or sand, without any added fertiliser.
