A very bizarre carnivorous plant, looking like no other. If traps grow horizontally in a rosette and the trap is worth a close look at the clever lobster pot effect. Found growing wild in the areas prone to flooding where the plant has evolved catch aquatic animals such as tadpoles, small fish fry, insects etc. It will also catch ground crawling insects when some situated amongst grasses and shrubs. When hybridised with other Sarracenias will produce some bizarre hybrids. A good plant to grow on a windowsill as the height is a maximum of 15 centimetres (six inches) Plants have lovely colouration of red white and green. Flower colour is variable but some of the darker ones can appear almost black.
